We are very pleased to invite new MIS faculty to participate in the MIS Camp, which will be held at ESAN University –host of AMCIS 2010- on Thursday, August 12th, in conjunction with the 2010 Americas Conference on Information Systems. ![]() At the MIS Camp, we will not be discussing the latest research techniques for grounded theory research or technology adoption models. Instead, we will be discussing issues that hopefully will help you navigate the waters of junior facultydom until you reach a senior faculty harbor. We will have the opportunity to have a Q&A session with leading MIS journal editors. The keynote address will be by our own John King, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at University of Michigan, addressing the transformation of Higher Education, particularly as it affects our discipline; a can’t miss talk. The MIS Camp will also use three interactive sessions with junior and senior faculty to explore the stresses and joys of Connecting, Surviving Professionally, and Balancing Personal Life. The emphasis is on interaction, sharing of experiences, listening, and having fun.
Potential campers include AIS members beginning their first, second or third year in an academic position in the Fall of 2010. This format has been very successful in the past, partly because it allows new faculty to share their experiences at their new institution with peers from other institutions. If you have attended camp before, you should not attend a second time, so if you have attended MIS camp before, please do NOT apply. This is an AIS sponsored event and therefore all campers must be registered for the conference. In order to keep this experience an intimate one, attendance is limited to 32 people. Notice that the camp is the day before the regular program begins, so you should plan to arrive in Lima, Peru with enough time to begin bright and early Thursday morning. The camp won't be very valuable unless you are able to participate the entire day! We hope MIS Camp sounds interesting for junior faculty members! It should be both educational and fun. The roster of counselors we are putting together will guarantee both! To be part of MIS Camp you have to follow to processes: (1) when registering for the AMCIS Conference you will have to indicate on the registration form your interest to attend MIS Camp, and (2) you must also apply by sending the enclosed form to the Camp organizers. If you would like to attend MIS Camp, please fill in our application form for downloading and EMAIL it to Ramiro Montealegre ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or Josep Valor ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) by June 1, 2010.
