The Association for Information Systems (AIS) is the premier global organization for academics, students and practitioners specializing in information systems (IS). Founded in 1994, AIS is now an international professional society of over nearly 3,000 members from more than 80 countries and a key player in the advancement of the IS academic community.
The Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) is an annual research conference in the information systems discipline held in the region. AMCIS attracts up to a thousand or more attendees principally from North America but increasingly from other regions of the world as well. It is conducted under the auspices of AIS. Colleagues from prominent local universities take responsibility for organizing and making local arrangements associated with the conference. Latin America has begun to develop strong ties with the IS community, both academic and corporate, and depends on strengthening them to pursue further economic and social development. Bringing AMCIS to South America for the first time will not only fulfill traditional attendees´ expectations, but will also offer them a lively vision of the role that information technology plays in our society. It will be an opportunity for faculty and practitioners from this region of the world to participate in this conference, to enrich their expertise in information systems and to network with their peers from the U.S., Canada and other countries. The opportunity to bring AMCIS to Lima will be enhanced by the participation of academics and practitioners not only from Peru but also from Latin America and the rest of the Spanish-speaking world, with who ESAN University, host of the conference, has strong collaborative relationships. |
